Mera is a fictional superheroine appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Jack Miller and Nick Cardy, she first appeared in Aquaman #11 (September 1963). Mera is the queen of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and wife of Aquaman.
Mera is a highly skilled warrior and possesses hydrokinetic abilities that allow her to control water with her mind. She can also create "hard water" objects, which are incredibly strong and durable. Mera's powers are derived from her natural Atlantean physiology and have been enhanced by exposure to the mystical waters of Xebel.
Mera's backstory is that she is from a rival underwater kingdom called Xebel, which she fled from to escape a forced marriage. She eventually met and fell in love with Aquaman, and the two were married, making her the queen of Atlantis. Mera has had a tumultuous relationship with her husband over the years, often facing external threats that put their marriage and kingdom in danger.
Mera has been a prominent character in various DC Comics publications, including her own series and team appearances with the Justice League. She has also made appearances in various media adaptations, including the live-action Aquaman film, where she was portrayed by actress Amber Heard.
